Rockwall Main Street Manager Bethany Golden – Episode #2

Rockwall welcomes first Main Street Manager

“We are so excited to welcome Bethany as the manager of Main Street,” said Robert LaCroix, the city’s director of planning who will supervise the program. “Because she has so much experience with Main Street, Bethany was able to start right away setting up the new program for us.”

Rockwall was named a 2009 Texas Main Street City by the Texas Historical Commission. The program helps cities revitalize historic downtowns utilizing preservation and economic development strategies. It is rated as one of the most successful downtown revitalization programs in the nation.

Bethany was scheduled to begin working February 23. Her first big project will be preparing for a visit by Texas First Lady Anita Perry on March 24, a kick-off event that will mark the start of the Rockwall Main Street program. The event is a partnership between the Texas Main Street Center and the Independent Bankers Association of Texas.

But first on her agenda will be introducing herself to the community.

Recently appointed by the City Council to the Main Street Advisory Board are: Sandra Whitley, Pat Coble, SuLaine Callaway, Barbara Coleson, Pat Turner, Chris Cameron and Laura Brosie.

ROCKWALL RETAIL ROLLING

An affiliate of The Woodmont Company has purchased some 50 acres for development of a 500,000-square-foot retail center.

The Plaza at Rockwall will be in the southwest quadrant of I-30 and SH 205, about 20 miles east of Dallas. JC Penney and Belk’s will anchor the development. Other retailers include Staples, Ulta and Best Buy. Opening is set for October 2007.
